BON SECOUR WILDLIFE REFUGE
Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge is a peaceful coastal escape on the Fort Morgan Peninsula in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Spanning approximately 7,000 acres, the refuge protects some of Alabama’s last remaining undisturbed coastal barrier habitat, including beach dunes, wetlands, maritime forests and pine-oak woodlands.
Visitors can enjoy hiking, birding, fishing, photography, wildlife observation and quiet time in nature. The trails showcase native plants, animals and changing Gulf Coast habitats, while birders may spot seasonal migrants, pelicans, ospreys, wading birds and other coastal wildlife. Paddlers can also access Little Lagoon from the canoe and kayak launch at the Jeff Friend Trail.
Whether you are planning a slow nature walk, a family-friendly outdoor outing or a scenic break from the beach, Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge offers a beautiful way to experience the wilder side of the Alabama Gulf Coast.
